Formal training and preparation for students who will begin engineering co-op or internships varies widely, and may or may not be connected to specific EML training. Additionally, connections with students while they are completing these work experiences varied widely, as does the post-work experience debriefing process.
This workshop is intended for engineering faculty and staff who work closely with students engaged in engineering work experiences (co-op and internships). We will present a summary of findings from a survey on this topic, and discuss in the interactive session some potential best practices learned from our respondents. We will discuss these issues from the perspective of all involved, including students, their school, and the employers.
The session will be interactive and include group activities related to top student work skillsets and ways to build these skillsets stronger before and during the work rotations.
