About the Workshop
Evidence shows that real-world experiential learning is highly effective at developing topical knowledge, practical skills, and mindsets. This is particularly relevant for the development of the knowledge, skills and mindsets required by engineers to effectively tackle complex social, economic and environmental challenges (we use “sustainability” as a shorthand for these).
The Real-world Experiential Learning ‘At Scale’ for Sustainability (ELfS) workshop will inspire, empower, equip, and support you in the application of the underpinning pedagogies and ‘design principles’ of the experiential learning ‘at scale’ pedagogy to develop and deliver your own successful and impactful EM & sustainability-related experiential learning program back at your institution.
- When: July 7 - 11, 2025.
- Where: Virtual.
- Who Should Attend: Faculty interested in integrating EM and sustainability-related experiential learning into their courses.
- Cost*: $1,500 per person.
*Registration cost includes workshop attendance, one year of coaching and consulting, and access to a library of workshop materials.
What To Expect From the Workshop
Everything you learn from the facilitation and coaching team and other participants can be immediately applied to your context and topics of interest.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the constituent pedagogies underpinning, and ‘design principles’ for, effective experiential learning ‘at scale’.
- Describe the various roles and responsibilities of learners and educators in effective and scalable experiential learning environments (and contrast these roles and responsibilities with those in other learning environments).
- Express how KEEN’s Entrepreneurial Mindset & Skills framework relates to the mindsets and skills required by engineers to effectively and collaboratively (with other engineers & non-engineers) tackle complex social, economic and environmental challenges (aka “sustainability” challenges).
- Articulate the importance of Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) within effective experiential learning programs.
- Analyze and critique live examples of experiential learning (e.g. the Experiential Learning Simulations) using the pedagogical frameworks and tools they have learned.
- Apply these pedagogical tools and frameworks to the design and delivery of their own experiential learning program.
- Appreciate the value of educator peer-groups for supporting, enabling and enhancing teaching and learning knowledge and skills.
