Launched as a 3:2 dual-degree program with three students in 1988, the undergraduate engineering major at George Fox grew to become a four-year ABET accredited program with electrical and mechanical engineering concentrations by 2004. After adding computer engineering in 2006 and civil engineering in 2010, engineering became the largest major at the university by 2013 – at which time it was reorganized as the College of Engineering (including mathematics, computer science and information systems majors). The entrepreneurial trajectory of the past 30 years has established George Fox’s College of Engineering as an innovative academic enterprise, known for excellence in hands-on making, team-centered pedagogy, industry collaboration, and humanitarian design.

The College of Engineering supports three undergraduate departments: Electrical and Computer, Mechanical and Civil, and Mathematics and Applied Science. Through these departments the College offers a Bachelor’s in Engineering with concentrations in: Civil, Electrical, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems, and Mathematics.

Collaborating with KEEN schools and attending KEEN-sponsored workshops has motivated our engineering faculty to develop and implement successful EML-based pedagogy. As a result, entrepreneurially minded learning is being systematically woven into the fabric of our college of engineering curriculum and becoming part of the broader culture at George Fox University.
