Summary
Details about events where students are asked to "rethink" a concept
Description
The Wellness Center team at our university launched a new student initiative for the 2019-2020 academic year, a monthly event specifically for freshmen. Each month, students are asked to "rethink" a concept. For example the following RETHINK sessions were held in the Fall; RETHINK your connections, RETHINK your wellTH, RETHINK your finish line and RETHINK your responsibilities.

The CREATE Institute at MSOE was asked to facilitate the RETHINK Community event held in January 2020. We organized an hour long event, open to all students, to engage with representatives of community organizations, as well as other students, faculty and staff. A lunch was provided. In this hour, students socialized while completing their Community Passport in order to earn a raffle ticket. To begin the event, after a brief introduction by CREATE's Director, four student leaders shared the ways their student organization connects to the community and represents one element of the MSOE Mindset: Leaders of Character, Responsible Professionals, Passionate Learners, or Value Creators. Then the Passport Activity was explained and students had 30 minutes to eat and complete their activities. To close the event, raffle winners were chosen and prizes distributed. Students were then reminded of the different ways they can become involved in both their campus community and the broader Milwaukee community.

The Passport had three questions to answer:

1) For a representative from a Community Organization or Student Organization:
How do you help serve the Milwaukee community? How can I get involved?
2) For a Faculty Member:
In what ways have you worked with an industry or community partner in your classes?
3) For a Student:
How has being involved in a club, student organization or athletic team created value for you?

The passport also asked students to contribute to an art project Create Your Mark and leave a contribution to a word cloud, answering the question, "What does community mean to you?". Photos are below.

A survey is included in order to capture student feedback on the event.
